Welcome to the second iteration of Vogue’s global spa guide, an index of the 100 best spas in the world, built from the expertise of our global editors and trusted contributors. There is a lot to choose from in the world of wellness, and no matter how far you’re planning to travel—from a subway ride to a trans-Atlantic flight—we want to make sure it’s worth the journey. Whatever your path, let us be your guide.
Why go here?
In the 23 years since it opened, Mii Amo has garnered a kind of cult status for in-the-know wellness world aficionados largely thanks to its setting, snuggled within the glowing red rocks of Boynton Canyon in Sedona, Arizona, right in one of the town’s famed “energy vortexes.” Now, thanks to a $40 million renovation (completed in 2022), and faced with an increasingly stressful world, the vibes-forward escape has never felt more necessary.

What’s the vibe?
A series of red concrete, stucco, and adobe structures designed to blend into the surrounding canyon, Mii Amo is like a small desert oasis populated by blissed-out people wearing bathrobes. (Seriously, pack light: Guests are encouraged to wear their robes all day, including to meals in the property’s fine-dining restaurant, Hummingbird.) Common spaces are loungey, modern, and, frankly, womb-like, with a burgundy tufted velvet conversation pit in the main foyer and cozy seating areas positioned around floor-to-ceiling windows that capture the soaring desert vistas. A central feature of the resort is the earth-floor crystal grotto, where the hotel stages barefoot grounding rituals to welcome and see off guests, as well as twice daily meditation sessions.
Those who subscribe to certain ideals around chakras and energy flow will find themselves in a very potent position. “It’s a very special canyon we’re in. It totally envelopes you. I like to say she holds the space,” Kimbeth McDermott, a senior member of Mii Amo’s mindfulness team, told a group of guests upon arrival. “We’ve been named number one in the world like four times, and it’s because of this canyon.” Other attractions include the open-air pool framed by the canyon’s crags, the spa itself (now with a brand-new consultation wing), various gardens, a fitness center, 23 soothingly appointed casitas (some with their own fireplaces, massage rooms, and hot tubs), and the decadent restaurant. The staff is exemplary: Friendly, fast, helpful, and professional, they remembered all guests by name (and their particulars), including some repeat visitors, and handled queries expertly. A hotel representative told me that a significant percentage of Mii Amo guests are repeat visitors, and some have returned more than 40 times.

The history?
Mii Amo is the younger spa-focused sister property to the larger 218-room Enchantment Resort, which it abuts. Enchantment has a heavier focus on outdoor activities and adventures—its Trail House offers several experienced guides for hikes in the surrounding area, as well as a comprehensive outdoor boutique for whatever gear you may have forgotten—while Mii Amo is more focused on interior journeys. Guests from either can experience both venues, but Mii Amo guests have a more exclusive experience. Guests at Mii Amo choose between 3-, 4-, 7-, or 10-day “journeys,” which are curated by a personal guide and include all juices and smoothies at the juice bar, three meals a day at Hummingbird, and a daily credit for spa treatments and/or outdoor experiences arranged through the Trail House. There is also unlimited access to programming and fitness classes, and access to the private Journey guest lounges.
