Peptide injections have become the wellness world’s biggest health hack. Proponents believe these shots can build muscle, rejuvenate skin, heal injuries, and otherwise promote vitality and longevity.

Under the directive of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has begun a review of about a half dozen popular but restricted injectable peptide to see if U.S. pharmacies can safely produce them, potentially making these largely untested medications easier for Americans to get.

“Over the last 5 to 10 years, peptides have gone from something only performance athletes, biohackers, and longevity doctors talked about to something you hear about casually in group chats and on TikTok. Social media, podcasts, and influencer culture have really accelerated the awareness,” says Jen Sogol Ash, ND, a doctor of naturopathic medicine, functional medicine expert, and a longevity director at Concierge MD and Drip Hydration in Los Angeles.
