Today, Kate Middleton made an emotional return to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she received cancer treatment last year. “I wanted to come and show my support for the amazing work that’s going on here and for those who are going through treatment and having such a hard time,” the royal said, as she met with patients.

It has been a year since Kate was admitted to hospital for a planned abdominal surgery. Two months later, she revealed in a video that she had been diagnosed with cancer following the operation, and was undergoing a course of preventive chemotherapy. “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said at the time.

In September, the Princess revealed that she had completed chemotherapy in another moving video, which showed her enjoying the outdoors with Prince William and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Opening up about her experience, the royal described how “the last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family,” adding that “life as you know it can change in an instant.”

The royal concluded her poignant message by saying: “To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey—I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand.” With Kate’s visit today—which also came with the announcement that she will join the Prince of Wales in becoming a patron of the Royal Marsden—it’s clear that she’s staying true to her word.
