One component of Met Gala magic is seeing runway looks come to life on the red carpet—or in the case of “Superfine,” on a blue one. The oldest runway reference was stretched all the way back to 1947; A Complete Unknown’s Monica Barbaro wore a version of the Christian Dior’s most famous creation, the nipped-waist Bar suit. La La Anthony honored Virgil Abloh by wearing a look from the designer’s fall 2020 show. By far, most of the looks came from the recent 2025 collections. This exposure wasn’t limited to ready-to-wear; couture looks from Valentino, Chanel, and Thom Browne got airings as well.
