The 2022 Met Gala is an important moment in fashion and beauty history for a myriad of reasons. But for nail aficionados particularly, it marked the birth of the mani that launched 1,000 spin-offs, food-as-beauty-trends, and heated debates: the glazed donut nail. Fast-forward three years later and Hailey Bieber, the queen of viral manicures, is back with a new nail look that will take over all our socials.
The nail artist behind this look is Dawn Sterling, who has also worked with Chappell Roan and Bella Hadid. To get the pearlized effect, Sterling tells Vogue that she used a custom mix of OPI’s Funny Bunny and Put It In Neutral, topped with Top Coat Tin Man Can. The final result, she says is “a soft, luminous finish.”

The 2025 Met Gala celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” With odes to Black dandyism, many took the red carpet in their tailored pieces, and Bieber went for simple glam with a black blazer dress and minimal makeup, making her iridescent nails really pop.
Have we found the glazed donut’s worthy successor? Only time will tell. But if we were betting people, we’d be confident in risking our collection of prized chrome polishes on it.
