As a long-time repeat wearer, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales knows a thing or two about how to give a wardrobe staple a new lease of life. Case in point? The Alexander McQueen look she wore for her annual Together at Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey.

Kate debuted the red double-breasted coat back in 2020 for the launch of her Hold Still photography project, teamed at the time with black pumps by Gianvito Rossi and a white T-shirt underneath. Two months later, she rewore the coat with a black turtleneck, an Emilia Wickstead tartan skirt and a matching scarf, before bringing it back out again in 2022 for the Rugby League World Cup.

This time around, the Princess jazzed up the coat with a festive black bow, pairing it with the same tartan skirt and black suede boots–proving how simple it is to give a new twist to an old outfit combination.

Of course, Kate Middleton has plenty of Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton–her wedding dress designer and one of her go-to couturiers–in her wardrobe, but it remains to be seen whether the royal will switch allegiance to Givenchy, now that the designer is at the helm of the French fashion house. For now though, she’s content with revisiting her own archive.
