Mikey Madison’s Soft Hollywood Waves Deserve an Oscar

Madison’s outfit meant business: she wore a black suit with an oversized coat, a crisp white shirt, and a textured black tie. She wore Holly Golightly-esque, oversized oval sunglasses, and carried a black clutch. It’s a much more masculine look than we’re used to seeing her in, but it still incorporated all of Madison’s sophisticated femme touches. Earlier in the day, she stepped out in a powder-blue, tweed Patou set, t-bar Ferragamo heels, and St. Agni’s shell clutch bag. Her hair was blowdried straight and glossy.

As exotic dancer Ani in Anora, Madison’s brunette lengths shimmer with pink and purple tinsel. The film’s hair department head Justine Sierakowski talked in detail to Vogue about building the character out with Madison and director Sean Baker through her striking visual aesthetics. Hair was tantamount to her character development: Ani’s introduction as the bold and beguiling club dancer with glittering straight hair, to “playing wifey” with more curled and polished tresses, getting bigger and wilder in Vegas, and more lank and flat as she traipses to find her husband on the run with her rag-tag crew of Russian heavies.

Across her red carpets, luncheons, and engagements for Anora, Madison has leaned into classic, feminine hair and classic beauty. For the Gotham Awards, she kept her hair in a sleek bun, emphasizing her more dramatic cat-eye and cut-out Schiaparelli look. For the Golden Globes—and as Matthieu Blazy’s last Bottega Veneta girl in a shimmering gold strapless gown—her long brown hair was lifted into a side part, with super soft waves.
