Moody nails for spring? Groundbreaking—seriously. While the season is often filled with soft pastels (hi, lavender milk nails) and shimmery nudes, some celebs have decided to go in a different direction this season. Smoky, sultry, and surprising, deep mauves and mocha browns have come to the forefront lately, with both Hailey Bieber and Gigi Hadid signing off on the trend.
Bieber, who is known for her neutral glazed-donut nails, showed off a new moody mani while attending the Fashion Trust U.S. Awards in Los Angeles.

Bieber’s manicure is a muted, cool-toned dark mauve. Simple and sleek, there’s no shimmery finish to be found. Despite this new color for Bieber, she did keep one thing consistent: her classic go-to almond nail shape. The cherry on top? Her nails are a perfect color match to her YSL sleeveless cutout dress. It’s making us think—do we need to buy her Rhode Pocket Blush in Plum to totally complete the ’fit? The cool purple-berry tone would go so well with the dress and nails for a chic monochrome look.

Bieber’s nail artist, Zola Ganzorigt, hasn’t shared the exact nail polish shade she used for this cool plum manicure, but with some digging, we found these colors to achieve a similar look:
We’re loving that Gigi Hadid is also leaning into some spring moodiness. For Hadid’s appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on April 9, she went with a milky, light brown manicure on short nails. While we didn’t get a super-close look at the nail shape, it looks like they might be round or squoval nails. Celebrity nail artist Mei Kawajiri created the look, and though she’s known for her over-the-top nail art and 3D designs, she totally nailed this uncomplicated, straightforward mani too.
