“Hold that rock up, baby!” That’s how DK Metcalf broke the news of his engagement to Normani—needing little motivation to tell the world of their news.
Yesterday (March 13), NFL star Metcalf was speaking to press after he was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Pittsburgh Steelers. “My family and her family was in Houston. It was my sister’s spring break, and I just thought about getting the whole family together for a big kumbaya and joining our families with the ring,” Metcalf said. He shared that the proposal to the pop star happened just a day previous, March 12. With Normani watching him from the side of the stage, Metcalf jovially called upon her to hold up her engagement ring. In a video later posted to social media, he called her his “beautiful fiancée.”
The proposal caught Normani by total surprise. “They got me good,” she said, holding her ring finger aloft and wearing a Steelers jersey.

Normani and Metcalf have been publicly dating since July 2023, when they hard launched on Instagram. However, papparazzi shots link them together as far back as June 2022, when they were spotted having dinner at celebrity (namely, Rihanna) favorite Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi. Metcalf confirmed that they had actually been introduced in 2020 by Ciara and Russell Wilson, who is Metcalf’s former Seahawks teammate. Following the public announcement, Ciara shared a very sweet video to TikTok where the couples had Facetimed to share their news.
Metcalf also shared that he had been wanting to propose to Normani since last year, but schedule conflicts got in the way. He told reporters, then, he wanted to “take an approach to where a schedule couldn’t matter.”
So how did he pop the question? “I started sending her flowers with a story and then the last letter on the flower was ‘Will you marry me?’And she said yes.”
