In a July 2026 statement, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee revealed she’s been diagnosed with PD. Mobility problems she originally assumed were a by-product of multiple joint replacement surgeries were eventually attributed to PD.
Writing about her experience, she was transparent about the challenges and unpredictability that come with the illness: “Some days I’m so tired I can’t get the day moving at all. On others, it gives me a little more room to move, think, work, and feel like myself.”
She also highlighted the misconception that PD solely causes movement issues. “It can bring anxiety, depression, exhaustion, and apathy,” she explained. “The apathy is particularly strange … that has been one of the hardest things to explain.”
However, “I have not stopped living, and I have not stopped working,” she wrote. In fact, her first new album since 2008, Comes in Waves, is set for release in August 2026.
